Job Title: Buyer Ingredient Purchasing Steward

 

Summary

Braswell Milling Company (d/b/a Braswell Family Farms) in Nashville, NC has an opening for an Ingredient Purchasing Steward. This person will work closely with mill operations and primarily be responsible for purchasing feed mill ingredients, feed formula support, scheduling receipts, tracking inventory, and calculating feed pricing. Key areas of responsibility for this position will be:

  • Purchasing all conventional and organic ingredients used in our feed mill, including several traded commodities.
  • Planning the mill’s weekly ingredient requirements and receiving schedule based on estimated usage, inventory levels, and storage capacities.
  • Providing formula support including on demand reformulations, strategizing least-cost in response to changes in ingredient costs and nutritional values, and monthly feed program review.
  • Teaming with mill operations to coordinate grain and other ingredient deliveries.
  • Forecasting ingredient needs and executing purchase contracts, including managing basis and pricing decisions for commodity ingredients.
  • Overseeing in-house corn quality testing including maintenance of equipment and purchasing of supplies.
  • Ensuring incoming ingredients comply with organic certification and mill bio-security requirements.
  • Calculating weekly customer feed prices.
  • Tracking basis & board pricing and calculating gains and losses on commodity purchases.
  • Tracking customer grain contract activity.
  • Facilitating month end mill inventory.
  • Networking and developing our farmer & supplier relationships including partnering with Braswell’s ambassador champion.
  • Supporting an ERP implementation in the areas of purchasing, receiving, costing, pricing, contract maintenance.

 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills – phone, email, in person.
  • Demonstrated work history that shows strong team collaboration and process improvement.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Highly proficient computer skills including accounting software programs and Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • 3+ years of relevant purchasing experience. Knowledge of grain trading policies and current market trends via the Chicago Board of Trade are a plus.
  • Professional appearance and attitude with a strong customer service focus.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in agricultural business, logistics, accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimal travel.
