About the Company
Based in the Alpine Valleys, our client was established in 1996 by a group of independent grape growers from the Alpine and King Valleys in the North East of Victoria as a contract processing facility and today is the Alpine Valley’s largest winery. They produce a range or premium varietal wines from classical and alternate varieties. The company manages a complex revenue stream made up of contract processing, bulk wine sales, branded wine sales for both domestic and export markets, bespoke wine sales, extensive wine club and cellar door operation. Production and distribution is more than 260,000 cases per annum.
Wine styles include sparkling wines produced from Prosecco (Glera), Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well white wines from Pinot Gris and Riesling. Red wines range from robust Shiraz and Cabernet to lighter styles from Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Nero d’Avola.
About the role
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will oversee all winemaking, sales, cellar door, wine club, restaurant and vineyard production. You will be an excellent manager of people, and a strong communicator. The CEO will lead the wine business and take primary responsibility for ensuring long term sustainability of the business by growing the portfolio, whilst leading and developing a small enthusiastic team.
Responsibilities
- Leading the development of the evolution of the businesses strategic direction
- Adopting efficient operational processes to ensure sound winemaking practices, financial control, risk management and regulatory compliance
- Report monthly to the Board of Directors
- Identifying and developing opportunities for new business, diversification, and industry services.
- Oversite / driving of all national & export
- Support the planning and implementation of sales & marketing strategies to grow market share with a focus on wine club membership
- Strategic Planning and Branding – oversite of marketing strategy to ensure branding remains consistent across all platforms
- Review all winery, POS, web, customer and wine club communication
- Have strong oversight of the website and good understanding of Club and POS software
- Ensure all staff are achieving the standards and quality levels set by the company.
- Oversee winemaking team to ensure all wines are prepared in the most efficient and timely manner so as not to compromise wine quality, always with a focus on the key tenants of QA/QC in the winery
Education / Experience / Skills
- Tertiary degree in Marketing, Business Management, Oenology or a similar field
- Ten years of experience in marketing, communications and social media or equivalent, with a sound understanding of wine industry practices
- Excellent leadership, sales, marketing and negotiating capabilities will be critical for success in this role.
- Proven ability to help businesses meet or exceed forecasted revenue goals
- Ability to manage & motivate a small professional team and work collaboratively
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
