Summary:

Produce highest quality rotational crops using best management practices.  Monitor crop growth and moisture needs on a daily basis.   Follow company fertilizer schedule and report actual application records as well as crop requirements and problems.  Manage all record-keeping responsibilities and data processes.  


Essential Functions:

  • Plan, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and practices for the operation of rotational crop production and ensure compliance with Threemile Canyon Farm s standards for operation.
  • Confer with management team and Agronomist to evaluate soil and weather conditions and to develop plans and procedures for crop development.
  • Inspect fields and observe growing plants and harvested grass crops to determine work requirements such as cultivating, spraying, thinning, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, and drying, according to time of year and condition of soil, plants, and crops.
  • Inspect work performed, observe instrument and gauge readings, ascertain condition of crop, and performs related duties to verify worker adherence to instructions.
  • Oversee the packaging, storage, and transporting of harvested crops.
  • Maintain fertilizer application records and time and production records.
  • Move and ship hay and grass seed as necessary during the winter months.
  • Set-up and fix fertilizer pump and calibrate pivot times.
  • Supervise a team of employees in support of Threemile Canyon Farm s operations,  including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; assisting employees in career growth and development.
  • Determine the number of and kind of workers needed to perform required work and schedule activities.
  • Train workers in work procedures, safety policies, and use of machinery and tools.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.

 

Secondary Functions:

  • Drive and operate farm machinery such as tractor, baler, and self-propelled harvester.
  • Examine machinery to ascertain maintenance, repair, and replacement requirements, and supervise workers engaged in machinery-maintenance activities.
