Overview

Heidi Heath Greenhouse, INC is looking for a working manager position who works with the growing, care and maintenance of greenhouse plants produced for wholesale sales. This person will also be responsible for design, inventory control and the purchasing of plants and supplies. Manage plant scheduling and timing of planting to customer delivery.

Job Responsibilities

Growing

• Active in research of new product/plant material
• Monitors growing conditions, plant health and growth stage
• Assist in training new employees in growing techniques and activities
• Maintains a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies

Purchasing

• Greenhouse plastics
• Soil
• Various supplies
• Unrooted and Rooted Perennials, Annuals and Fall Mums
• Seeds

Design

• Creating recipes for basket and container designs for spring and fall product line
• Determining Initial plant material
• Ordering plant material
• Scheduling what weeks to pot and crop spread
• Landscape design and development

Sales

• Entering customer sales of various annuals, baskets, containers, pots, flats and perennial plant material
• Checking orders for accuracy
• Plant scheduling-determining what weeks to plant to finish with good size and quality
• Delivery scheduling
• Catalog development for website

Inventory

• Accurate recordkeeping to insure there is enough product/plant material for sales
• Reacting to overages/shortages of product/plant material

Core Competencies

• Ability to calculate figures, amounts, proportions, percentages and volume in relation to the application of fertilizers, chemicals and water.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to interact with team members and customers
• Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Have the knowledge and ability to identify major plant groups and be aware of their culture and growth traits
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Planning, organizing and attention to detail
• Adaptability and multi-tasking; experience working in a fast-paced environment

Experience

• 2–4-year degree in Horticulture or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Must have knowledge of the safe handling and application of chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures.

Required Work Schedule

This position requires a 40-hour minimum work week
