About the Client

About the Role
Grain Growers are looking for an experienced Media Manager or ex Journalist with a strong network, presence and understanding of the agriculture sector.  You will be responsible for developing and delivering a range of media related activities including responses to media enquiries, preparation of media releases, media campaigns and media issues management.
 
About the Candidate
As the Media Manager you will be well connected within the agriculture sector, you will be confident, personable and excellent at building strong stakeholder relationships both internall and externally.  You will be a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team and conduit between the media and GrainGrowers. You will be proactive in seeking opportunities and be able to promote the diverse and positive work of GrainGrowers. You will be a natural influencer, engager and negotiator and be able to work autonomously and collaboratively. 
 
Duties include but are not limited to:   
  • Develop and deliver effective and relevant media services to reflect GrainGrowers priorities 
  • Implement and coordinate media conferences, campaigns, releases, and other media projects to support advocacy and engagement priorities 
  • Develop compelling media content and maintain relationships with a wide range of media organisations
  • Foster positive relationships with journalists covering agriculture, trade, and business
  • Work across the GrainGrowers team to identify media opportunities to amplify projects and organisational achievements
  • Identify new business systems and processes to improve efficiency and productivity of GrainGrowers media coverage and network

 

To be successful you will have:  

  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and ability to prepare proactive and reactive responses
  • Ability to write content for a range of media including feature articles and op-eds 
  • Initiative in investigating, developing, and managing proactive opportunities 
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly writing with ability to cover technical and complex information in clear and accessible ways 
  • A deep understanding of Australian agriculture, particularly grain farming 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent demonstratable work/technical experience is essential.
