About the role

The Assistant Orchard Manager is responsible for assisting the Orchard Manager with the safe and efficient management of day-to-day orchard operations.

Coordinating, and supervising various farming activities and deputising in the absence of the Orchard Manager. This position is physically demanding and requires planning and organisational skills as well as the ability and desire to be a team player.

Responsibilities

• Assist orchard manager in overseeing all day-to-day activities within the orchard and ensure they are completed in a safe and timely manner.
• Meet quality assurance requirements.
• Implement work instructions as required.
• Successfully assist in managing the team and provide performance feedback on employees to the orchard manager as needed.
• Assist orchard manager to address communications, performance, and employee relations within the orchard workforce.
• Help lead and develop the orchard team including casuals and labour hire contractors.
• Monitor crops for insect & disease pressure.

Education / Experience / Skills 

• Possesses a full Australian Driver s license & own transport.
• Formal qualifications in agriculture / agribusiness / horticulture (highly regarded).
• Ability to work on/fix basic mechanical needs.
• Chemical users certificate.
• Forklift licence an advantage
• First Aid qualification.
• A minimum of two years experience in agriculture or horticulture.
• Experience maintaining and repairing irrigation systems.
• Previous experience in planting new orchards.
• Pest and disease identification and control.
